“Portraits” or “Pictures of People”  are in all reality photographs of family and friends so let’s call this exhibit Select Pictures of Family and Friends.

In many ways I was just trying to make a good photograph, inspired by snapshots where the subject matter is most important  and composition is less so. 

​

The stumbling block in my situation, especially with these images, is that I used an 8x10 view camera which requires the subject to NOT MOVE while I position the camera, focus, take light meter readings, manually set the exposure, cock the shutter, slide in a film holder remove the dark slide then press the cable release and trip ping the shutter.  With the exception of a few images, these were not “posed” pictures, I call them found images.  I saw people going about their day and seeing a photograph in my mind asked them not to move.  In that sense they are snap shots, family photos.

I wish I can claim these images as candid photographs. I can’t.  I do hope though they embrace that feeling.
